Is there anyone who likes the word “DIET”?
Can anyone tell me please. It is a word that I personally hate. That is why I do not do well with diets. But I do believe that we need to live a healthier life and that is why you have probably come to this page. We all want and need to live a healthier life but just do not like the foods you have to eat or the life style that is associated with it. So how can we make this FUN and INTERESTING? Well our dear friends we are going to do this together. We will make the changes together and learn from each other. I will post pictures of my weight loss and encourage you dear friend to do the same. I need to lose about 35 – 40 pounds even though I have been told that is too much. But what is more important to me is that I live healthier. So to start with I will go back to what helped me before. Take a look and see what you think.
We all need to keep in mind that to lose weight we need to eat. Now I know what you are thinking. Has the Chef lost his mind! Well my dear friend I probably have but not about this. We do need to eat but change what we are eating and how much. You see we need to talk to our bodies. Assure it that we are not going to starve it. You see the worst thing we can do for ourselves is not feed our bodies. That sends a message to our brain that it needs to conserve what it has and it slows down our metabolism.

In extreme cases it will start to feed on itself, but not the fat as we wish it would but on muscle. How important it is that we feed the body but not the same fatty foods we once did, no but with wholesome and healthier foods.

Think of your body and how it functions. It needs proteins, some fats and the right kind of fat of which we will discuss later, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and most importantly is fiber and plenty of it. Our bodies need to rid itself of the parts of foods our bodies do not use and the best way to flush it out is with fiber. So think of foods you can eat that give you fiber like cereals. My favorite is All Bran. I try to eat it every morning. If you need protein in the mornings to get you through try a spoonful of peanut butter. Great source of protein and the fiber and protein will stay with you longer.

For lunch try a slice of bread high in fiber with a slice of cheese or meat. Mustard is good to use as it helps to curb your appetite. For a snack try nuts like almonds. They contain the healthy fat our bodies need. They also feel you up and help you make it until dinner. For dinner try a grilled piece of meat of you choice and a salad with a very small amount of dressing. Pass on the bread this time and save your calories for later.
You can find all sorts of great recipes on salads and grilled meats in our cook book. And remember you must exercise sometime during the day whether you chose to in the mornings or evenings please try to get some exercise in you schedule. And try lifting weights to add muscle tone to your body. Remember we are changing the way we look. We are in control of how we will look in the next few weeks so I encourage you to think about that as you progress.
Look at yourself in the mirror and talk to yourself. Tell your body what you are doing and what you want it to do as well. Work with you body and listen to it when it speaks back. You might have to make some other changes. But at least we are making a start together. I have a current picture of me and Jan posted here and I will continue to post new pictures as my body makes its changes. If you email me with your success stories and come out to any of our events and show me pictures of your changes we will post those as well. Remember, we are in this together so let me know what you are thinking as well. And as always, Healthy Living to you FRIENDS!
